Not having to Google recipes, search through your email, or try to remember where you wrote it down on a piece of paper. It’s what’s driven us to do even more… to do something truly huge. We built an app that connects all the pieces of your home cooking process in a way that finally makes sense. Make the important decisions ahead of time and on your own schedule. Then there’s nothing to worry about when it’s time to eat.

  • Meal planning means you’re always on the hunt for recipes your family will enjoy.
  • That being said, the two sync automatically for a smooth and easy user experience.
  • If you’ve never thrown out a plastic container of rotten mixed greens, I can’t trust you.
  • If your family wonders what is for dinner, they can check out the app instead of you being asked multiple times a day.
  • Create a grocery list in two seconds that automatically matches your plan.
  • Ever since I discovered this recipe, I haven’t bought a single hamburger bun.

A meal planning unimeal review service like eMeals or PlateJoy is different from a meal kit service like Blue Apron. (Wirecutter recommends Blue Apron and others in our guide to the best meal kit delivery services.) Meal kits send you ingredients and recipes in a box. With a planning service, the ingredients for the meals overlap, helping to eliminate waste and save money.

AnyList started as a grocery list app and it shows, in a good way. If your biggest meal-planning headache is coordinating grocery runs with a partner, roommate, or family, this is the app that fixes it. It’s designed to be the central hub for a household’s shopping and cooking plans. You can create and share grocery lists and meal plans with family members in real-time, so everyone is always on the same page.

Paprika allows you to organize and save your favorite recipes, make meal plans each week, and it’s one of the meal planning apps with grocery list capability. While there are several reasons to choose Mealime over other apps, this meal planning app is also one of the most budget-friendly apps, giving you lots of value even with the free version. And if you choose to pay for full features, it costs $2.99 per month. Other features that set it apart include a grocery list, recipe database, and access to nutritional information in the paid version. You can also add your own recipes to the app database when you pay for a monthly subscription. Prepear is our pick for the best overall meal planning app because it runs like a true kitchen manager, which we think is perfect for busy professionals.

Best Meal Planning App for Dietary Restrictions: Mealime

PlateJoy ($100 per year) is the most customizable service I’ve tried. PlateJoy personalizes the plan to cut down on recipes with ingredients you don’t want, but that personalization means it isn’t as easy to swap between the more generic plans as with eMeals. I found that PlateJoy repeated recipes more often than eMeals, but the customization is worth it for some people.

If you’ve never thrown out a plastic container of rotten mixed greens, I can’t trust you. I have felt bad lately about all my food waste and one of my tricks to cutting back is this handy dandy tool, Cooklist, which lets you know when your food is nearing its expiration date. You can either manually add your groceries in the system or load your shopping list straight into the app.

Cozi – A Family Organizer:

Once you understand your own priorities, the right choice becomes clear. We recommend asking yourself a few key questions before committing to an app. I recommend taking advantage of that before making a choice, and be sure to cancel the subscription before it charges you. If you don’t like the recipes, another service may work better for you. Our kitchen efficiencies and meal dependencies help you make the most of every food item. We currently have a native mobile app for iOS users — download it here.

I dont love the software, it’s a little clunky and not updated enough, and the app is awful, but I could not find anything better, and it functions well for my purposes. It’s compatible with Paprika, which I use to have the recipes on my phone. Whisk is a free, community-centered meal planning and recipe app that offers a variety of user-friendly ways to save recipes and add them to a meal calendar. Its list feature is a little bit more limited than apps like AnyList, but if you’re looking for more of a modern, social media feel, Whisk could be right for you.

Hi! I’m Sydney. I’m a stay-at-home mom of three, and I make homemade meals for my Colorado family every week.

It’s neat because it seamlessly adds it to your weekly meal plan. The app provides you with a meal plan for every day of the week. Then, for each meal, you can choose from a list of recommended meals. I truly believe this is the best meal planning app that’s available right now (and it’s free!) so if you want to try it out, sign up here.
